Information for medical volunteers |
 |
The M-POWER Clinic was established in 2001 through the leadership of M-POWER board member and Brookwood gastroenterologist Tim Denton. As a charity clinic, we operate under the Alabama Good Samaritan law that allows medical personnel to volunteer without additional malpractice insurance or fear of lawsuits. Our services are targeted to the working poor who are uninsured or underinsured. We see patients of all ages and with a great variety of conditions. We average 20 patients a night, with 25 as maximum. To date, we have compiled more than 1900 patient charts. |
Currently, the clinic is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Our goal is to provide at least two physicians each night. Most of our volunteers are internists or GPs. We also have pediatricians, cardiologists, and dermatologists on scheduled nights and are looking to add other specialists. |
The clinic is located on the first floor of our building, which has been renovated to provide four exam rooms, a medicine supply closet, doctors’ office, and reception area. We do not operate a dispensing pharmacy but do maintain a medicine supply closet stocked with donated medications.
We would love for you to join our group of committed volunteers. Please contact Betty McCulloch or Ryan Hankins at (205) 595-5959. We will be glad to answer any questions or set up a time for you to visit and see the clinic in operation.
